There’s value in having a mindset and a focus on how your life could be improved. How things could be better. But far too many of us spend way too much energy on that. We need to do a better job at balancing things out more and also paying some attention and focusing on how awesome our life is right now!
If we do this, we’ll start to find even more ways in which our life is awesome. But this doesn’t come naturally to the brain. This question isn’t relevant to our nervous-Nelly brains with the outdated and obsolete mission of keeping us safe from physical danger so we can pass on our genes.
We need to make this relevant. We need to feel the emotion of this so our brains will take notice and pay attention. If we feel this effectively, it becomes a rewiring session where we start to create some neural structure around the question and answer. In short, we become more wired for awesomeness.
The way you do this is to set a timer for about 10 to 15 minutes. Then close your eyes and smile. Initially, the smile is fake and forced. But the brain doesn’t realize this. It just reacts to the smile and starts to release endorphins.
As your eyes are closed and you’re smiling, ask yourself the question of in which ways is your life awesome right now. You can go into some specifics and ask what has been your top moments so far of 2024? Or what am I excited about in my life right now? What about this makes me excited? How does this make me feel? What am I proud about, committed to, or enjoying most in my life right now?
Just ponder these questions and answers. The smile will start to become genuine. You just keep going and savoring and feeling it until the timer runs out. Do this a few times a week, it’s like compound interest, and you slowly become a different person!
